GLAD House in the News
“They are still children” – Dr. Beatrice Lampkin, GLAD House founder
WLWT 5 News is helping get the word out on how GLAD House is healing the damage caused by heroin addiction in families. Many of these children have been abused, and are developing behavior that will impact them for their entire lives—but their stories can change.
In recent years, the impact of heroin has become even more devastating. Take a look at just a few of these statistics from WLWT 5 News:
• More children are in custody of JFS are there as a result of heroin. “More than 2,900 children in custody in 2016. That is 900 more than were in custody in 2010.” • There were 2,000 reports of abuse and neglect in the last 3 months of 2016, which is higher than any 3-month period in a decade. • 50% of child welfare cases in Ohio involve heroin, cocaine, or both.
The implication is clear: these kids need help.
GLAD House is working to act now. Our mission is to break the inter-generational cycle of addition—if we don’t heal the problem now, these kids will fall into the same destructive patterns when they themselves become parents.
40% of GLAD House’s funding comes from donors like you! You can help GLAD House provide the care the kids need; help us teach them to process what they have been through, and arm them with the tools they need to reach their full, healthy potential in drug-free lives.
